QANTM FINAL PROJECT (Autodesk Maya)

18 09 2009

Here’s my final project for the college.

I might say it’s my masterpiece so far, since I put a lot of effort into it and into learning new aspects of 3D that always fascinated me such as FUR!!!

The idea was to create final render pictures to be then edited in photoshop, but since I managed to work ahead of schedule (although I had loads of problems at one point) I decided to compose those images myself.

The final results are those you’ll see in the small showreel posted here (This was part of the assignment as well!):

Some data:

  • Polygons: 18,872 (ok, a bit high poly, but I prefered to keep it this way since I’ve been sculpting it a lot)
  • Fur Sets: 3 (Fur + Whiskers + Field)
  • Fur Hair: 1,000,000
  • Texture Map: 4,096 x 4,096
  • Render Time: Can’t remember but it was well long… still shorter than what I was expecting!!!

The Relic – Scripting & Storyboarding Project (Celtx and Adobe After Effects)

17 09 2009

Well now… A bit of a change in this project…

The subject was covered over 2 trimesters by 2 different teachers and composed by many essays and drawings.

The aim was to understand and recreate the first few phases of movie creation.

My interest in the movie industry had built a curiosity in me about the process of movie creation, and finally after this course it got satisfied.

I started off creating a Treatment that I called “The Relic’s Guardians” and is a bit of a mixture between the tv show “Relic Hunter” and both “Tomb Raider” movies (I was tired and stressed in that period, so please cut me some slack about originality…)

Along came the script and the ability to use Celtx (great program if one’s into movie scripting)… Due to the lack of time it covers only the first few scenes of the movie…

In the meantime I was also drawing a rough storyboard, to complement the script. Here are the scans (I was supposed to keep it at around 20 frames):

Which I then animated using Adobe After Effects into this Animatic:

Many thanx to everyone for lending your voices!!!

Light Saber Project (Adobe After Effects)

17 09 2009

This is another small project/assignment I had to realise using my beloved Adobe After Effects.

We were given a small footage of a guy swinging a broomstick about in front of a green screen.
Our goal was to trace the stick and make it glow like a lightsaber, and also choose and apply a background, cast a shadow accordingly and colour correct the whole clip.
The mask on his face was something I added on my own just to cover his identity as I uploaded this on Youtube.

Short “Advanced Character Animation” Assignments

17 09 2009

This is a list of some of the assignments in the “Advenced Character Animation” module.

Very interesting subject, it focused on how to animate a rig seamlessly and naturally.

Everything is realised using Autodesk Maya and the Max Rig.

Unfortunately I encountered minor difficulties as the “Max Rig” is trully awesome except when it comes to FK/IK switching.

But all in all it was really good practice!!! Enjoy!!!

Assignments:

Lip Sync Animation Assignment

17 09 2009

Yet another lip sync animation.

This is an excerpt taken from an episode of “The Black Adder” starring Rowan Atkinson, comedy I find most hilarious!!!

Jump Animation Assignment

17 09 2009

Here’s a jump animation.

Unfortunately the twitching in the arms is due to the fact that the Max Rig wouldn’t allow me to do such a movement while FK/IK switching (not for lack of trying to solve the problem!!!).

Weight Lift Animation Assignment

17 09 2009

Here’s a simple weight lift assignment.

Realised using the Max Rig.

Loading Bay Project (Autodesk Maya)

14 09 2009

This is one project I’m particularly proud of!!!

Presenting the “Loading Bay” Project.

I came up with the project myself for the “Digital Environment” Subject. When I was creating the scenery, I had in mind one of those american back alleys behind a superstore and, to make it “livelier” (so to speak), I imagined it was the setting where a crime scene took place.

The scene is not complete and there are parts I have to complete / add /redo… So be patient, it’s one of the things I plan on completing for the new showreel I’ll be creating!!!

Getting on the Last Nerve – (Adobe Flash)

13 09 2009

Here’s the Final Project for the “2D Animation” subject.

This project is realised using Adobe Flash, some Photoshop to edit background and logos and some After Effects to edit the background video.

I’ve always been interested in Flash and I think I finally reached a point were I can begin to be proud of my 2D works.

…and it’s been great fun to do this!!! So: enjoy, comment and rate!!!

*(The video I posted on Youtube is not complete since a background video is missing and it is a bit laggy in some points. I’d advise you to watch it ==> <here> <== for a better experience!!!)

The Dance – Acting Project

13 09 2009

As part of the “Anatomy and Acting” subject, we had to come up with an idea for a movie, storyboard it, shoot it and then edit it.

We all had to come up with different stories, then split up in groups and choose one among them.

Warren Fitchie’s story was the best among ours and the most likely to be shot, since it was the most down-to-earth (mine involved a tuxedo and a car chase)

The Dance - StoryboardWarren Fitchie – Storyboard

After a brief meeting, we decide our roles in the creation of this short movie:

  • Warren: Director
  • Hogni: Actor
  • Lara: Actress
  • ME: Shooting and editing (compositing in Adobe After Effects)

As for my part of the job, you can all witness the results in the following video:
